About Alex Gormally

Alex is a solicitor who specialises in professional indemnity claims, policy coverage disputes, and other commercial disputes.

Before qualifying as a lawyer, Alex obtained a bachelor’s degree from King’s College London. He then completed the LLM Postgraduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, London.

Alex joined Caytons in 2019 as a paralegal before completing his training contract and qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales in July 2023.

Alex defends contentious claims brought against a broad spectrum of professionals, including architects, contractors, engineers, surveyors, subcontractors, lawyers, accountants, and brokers. He has extensive experience in litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation. He also advises on regulatory investigations conducted by the FCA, CMA, SRA, ACCA, and ARB.

On coverage matters, Alex regularly advises professional indemnity insurers on issues relating to late notification, policy exclusions, block notifications, policy endorsements as well as other issues. 

He also has experience in consumer law disputes. Recently, working with a team at Caytons, he assisted the National Franchised Dealers Association in intervening in the Supreme Court appeal Johnson (Respondent) & Ors. v FirstRand Bank Limited (London Branch) t/a MotoNovo Finance (Appellant) & Ors [UKSC/2024/0158]

In relation to non-contentious matters, Alex advises on appointments, collateral warranties, and building contracts on behalf of professionals and others operating in the construction industry. He is also experienced in drafting policy wordings.

During his time at Caytons, Alex has undertaken two successful secondments with MGA clients, working as a claims handler in their Financial Lines teams.
