About Richard Senior
Richard is a highly experienced dispute resolution lawyer, who has specialised for most of his career in professional indemnity, coverage and construction disputes.
His professional indemnity experience has spanned most non-medical professions. It has included claims involving several of the top 100 firms of solicitors and some of the biggest names in the construction professions. His work has frequently had an international dimension, including a series of complex and high-value actions brought against firms of solicitors by multiple claimants based in East and Southeast Asia and the Middle East, a dispute arising from a major infrastructure project in East Asia involving numerous parties across Europe, Asia and Oceania, and an insurance dispute arising from a large civil engineering project carried out by a North American company in an EU state.
In recent years he has developed a particular interest in buyer-funded development claims against conveyancing solicitors. He has been involved in claims relating to most of the high-profile failed developments including in Various Angelgate Claimants v Key Manchester [2021] PNLR 413 (Ch) and Various North Point Pall Mall Purchasers v 174 v Key Manchester [2022] EWHC 4 (Ch).
In addition to his dispute resolution practice, Richard has gained significant non-contentious experience, for example advising construction professionals (including one of the world’s best-known architectural practices) on appointment documents and negotiating terms with employers and co-consultants throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
After reading Law at Bristol, Richard was called to the Bar and completed pupillage at a leading Commercial Chancery set in Lincoln’s Inn. Thereafter, he worked for several years at a highly regarded specialist insurance law firm in the City. He joined Caytons in 2017.
